The complex was built in the early 1400's, to be used for the intricate rituals, twice a year, by which the Emperor importuned heaven for good harvests. The Long Corridor served the purpose of keeping the central Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests (rear) the required 200 paces away from the Divine Kitchen and the Butcher House, while protecting the offerings from being sullied by rain or sand.
