Nearby in the park is the English Corner, where Chinese gather to practise their English. Any English-speaking foreigner can quickly gather a crowd of a dozen or more. Walt takes the opportunity to talk politics, and finds many of the Shanghainese to be open and well-informed about U.S. policy.
