Use the sliders to set the level for hand-held and in-cradle use. If "Automatic brightness control" is checked, then it will sense when the iQue is in or out of the cradle and set the backlight brightness accordingly. (It won't do that while Bright-iQ is up on the screen, though.) Bright-iQ uses either the day or night brightness you select. It determines day or night based on the last GPS location. Use the Preferences menu command to control whether the backlight is dimmed at night, and how fast it dims at dusk and brightens at dawn. You may use either Bright-iQ or the system's brightness control to set the brightness level. In either case, your settings will be remembered. To restore the last settings you chose within Bright-iQ, tap "Prev Settings". If you make a change during the dusk period, while Bright-iQ is dimming the display, then that will become the new night setting (and the dimming period will be terminated). This will not change Bright-iQ's dimming time settings, so the next time you drive through dusk it will dim to your new setting at the old time. Similarly, changing the brightness during dawn will affect the stored day setting. To keep Bright-iQ from changing the backlight level, uncheck "Automatic control enabled." You can control the interval over which this occurs by entering numbers in the two fields. The numbers can be positive or negative, as long as the interval is between 1 and 300 minutes. Bright-iQ will restart itself on a soft reset. As a safety feature, if you prefer, you can uncheck "Restart Bright-iQ on reset" to prevent it from running through a reset.
