The Boxsters Have Landed V

At this time, to the best of my knowledge there is no Death Valley event being organized before TBHL V in May 2002.  If anyone wants to be the organizer, email me and I will be glad to turn over my contacts and any advice that is wanted.  It's really very easy.

Back by popular request: The World's Lowest (and now highest) Boxsterfest III. This year we feature:

Reserve rooms now - you can cancel up to 48 hours prior to arrival.

And now the details:

Folks returning from The Boxsters Have Landed IV are cordially invited to The World's Lowest Boxsterfest.  This begins with a stopover Sunday night, May 13 at the luxury resort Furnace Creek Inn (214 feet below sea level) in Death Valley National Park.  You make your own room reservations, then email me to get in on the group dinner.

Monday, May 14, you have several options:

  1. Join Nancy and me in a convoy through the Sierras to Sequoia National Park. Stay at least one night (we're staying two) at Wuksachi Lodge (7200 feet above sea level), within six miles of the main visitor center and sequoia groves. (Wuksachi may be full by now - see Accommodations below.)
  2. Stay on at Furnace Creek at the same low rates. Enjoy the many amenities at this luxury resort, explore the wonders of Death Valley, and maybe play the world's lowest golf course.
  3. Or just go home.

This is a great chance to see a spectacular part of California (and drive some twisty roads).  If you have any doubt, or are put off by Death Valley's grim name - take a look at this great article (and this old ad) and then try to resist this incredible side trip!  Also, take a look at the fun we had last year and on the 1999 Death Valley Convoy to TBHL II.

Here's how it works: Make and pay for your own hotel reservations. Then email me to get on the guest list for Sunday night dinner.

Accommodations:  In Death Valley, you can stay at either the Furnace Creek Inn, an AAA four-diamond resort hotel, or the Furnace Creek Ranch. They are about half a mile apart, and a mile or so from the Visitor Center.  The Inn is a vintage 1927 luxury resort; the rooms are period but elegant.  This year the rooms at the Inn start at just $140 for hillside and $157 for view, so there is little reason to exile yourself to the rustic Ranch ($115). Reserve early - you'll have to pay the first day as a deposit, but you can cancel and get a refund up to 48 hours before arrival. As of April 27, our room block has been officially released - but they are not expected to be full up so you should still be able to call and get the rate.

The reservation number for either the Inn or Ranch is (760) 786-2345. Make sure you tell them you're with the Boxsterfest group to get the rates quoted above. If the reservation person is clueless ask for Peter Brenner, the Sales Manager.

Sequoia Park: As of May 7, Wuksachi Lodge once again has rooms available. Reserve at (888) 252-5757. If they fill up, see if any of these places are nearby. Make reservations for Monday, May 14 and as much longer as you want to stay.

Sunday Dinner:  We will meet and eat at the Furnace Creek Inn (three diamonds) Sunday night, May 13.  Cocktails 7:00, dinner 8:00. We have a private room, same as last year. Email me to get on the guest list, and for the dinner choices for pre-ordering.

Et Cetera:  The drive from Las Vegas to Death Valley is just 130 miles (3 hours). We have scheduled a late dinner so you will have time to explore the valley.
